Historic buildings, museums, galleries, archives, libraries and natural heritage sites all have exciting stories to tell. The same finding-out skills apply in cultural and natural places, whether it is finding out visitors’ opinions, or creating ways to help them find out about the world around them now and in the past.

I have worked in all sorts of locations on all sorts of projects, such as:

  • Quarry Bank, the former cotton mill - National Trust
  • Carlisle Cathedral, Durham Cathedral, churches
  • Northumberland Archives
  • Northumberland Libraries
  • National Glass Centre
  • Dukesfield Arches, the remains of an 18C lead smelt mill – Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers
  • Kielder Water & Forest Park - making wildlife and the natural environment accessible to a wider range of people; re-wilding at Kielder Head, planting native tree species
  • Site-specific theatre, based on the true story of a circus elephant at the Theatre Royal, Newcastle – November Club
  • Heritage Schools - visiting schools and heritage providers for annual case studies, for Historic England

Many of the projects I have evaluated have been funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund; others by Arts Council, Esmee Fairbairn Collections Fund and other grant-making organisations, and the Heritage Schools programme is funded by the Department for Education.
