The anniversary was celebrated with a play (with Theatre Sans Frontieres, a community drama group) and an exhibition telling stories and escapades of Northumberland libraries, their staff and readers, a poetry competition, and birthday-themed activities in libraries for all ages. John Cunliffe, creator of Postman Pat, was a librarian on the Wooler library van and people and places on the library van route inspired his Postman Pat stories.
